Calligraphy is a very simple app that transforms a person’s physical handwriting, script or calligraphy into a kind of computer font. The process is simple; Print the template with a black, field tip pen, scan or photograph the template, upload it to your computer, and add characters to the app. Now you can create your own font.

How to draw golfs?

There are numerous possibilities to golf on the template. You can use different devices (Mac / PC / Smartphone / Tablet) and draw golfs with mouse / finger / pencil. Depending on the device, different apps can be used, depending on the vector (like Adobe Illustrator) or pixel graphics (like Procrit). Additionally, you can print a template and use a black pen. This can be a great way to protect children’s fonts – especially in these days of homeschooling.

Procter’s defects

In my first experiments, I used the iPad’s App Procter and an Apple Pencil. Procreate is a great drawing tool, but it has some drawbacks when used for golf drawing. Moving single gigs (for example, to make a lecture) is tiring. Importing PDF files is not possible. As such, you need to manually convert the Calligrapher PDF template to a high-resolution image file (for example, preview → save as → png resolution: 700 pixels/inch).

Pro Tip:

Pay attention to the correct resolution of your template in ProCreat! I sent a high-resolution PNG template to my iPad via AirDrop. After importing PNG in Progress from the Photos app, the resolution was drastically reduced.

Why calligraphy?

  • I have decided to calligraphy because of the following benefits.

  • It supports character variations and lectures.
  • The template provides an excellent overview of all the gulfs.
