5 Surprising Ways to Use Gorilla Tape Around Your Workshop

Gorilla tape

Gorilla Tape is a popular heavy-duty duct tape that is known for strength and durability, hence the name (gorillas are also pretty strong, right). While it’s commonly used for tasks like sealing ductwork or repairing equipment, there are actually a surprising number of ways to use Gorilla Tape around your workshop. Here are five of them.

1. Protecting tools

You probably have a collection of tools that you’ve accumulated over time and storing is a challenge. One way to protect and organise them is by creating custom tool holders with Gorilla Tape. Simply wrap a length of Gorilla Tape around each tool, sticky side out. Then press the tool onto a sheet of foam or cardboard. Cut out a custom holder and attach it to a pegboard or other storage surface with more Gorilla Tape. This method is great for storing small hand tools.

2. Organising cords

It’s also great for organising all the cords that are hanging around your workshop. Wrap a length of Gorilla tape around a piece of cardboard or foam, sticky side out. Then, wrap your cords around the tape, making sure to keep them neat and untangled. You can then attach the cord holder alongside the tool holder.

3. Opening tough jars

Who hasn’t be stumped by the why-won’t-you-open?! jar, whether you’re in the workshop or the kitchen? Simply stick one end of a length of Gorilla Tape on about a third of the lid of the container (making sure none is stuck to the jar itself). Grab the other end and pull hard. The length of tape will give you greater leverage to turn the lid which is firmly stuck to the tape.

4. Fixing leaky pipes

If you have a leaky pipe, Gorilla Tape can be a temporary fix until you get it permanently repaired. It won’t hold forever, but it will keep you safe and dry until fixed properly. First, shut off the water supply and dry the area around the leak as much as possible. Then wrap several layers of Gorilla Tape around the leak point, making sure to cover the entire affected area. The tape will create a strong, waterproof seal that will hold until you can get the pipe repaired. This method can be used just about anywhere you have a leak, from a container to a tent.

5. Creating custom clamps

Sometimes you need to clamp two pieces of material together while glue dries or you’re making a repair. Here’s a quick and easy solution. Create a Gorilla Tape clamp by wrapping a length of tape around the two pieces of material, making sure to tighten the tape as you go. For extra strength, add a length of wire or a wooden dowel. Presto! A strong, temporary clamp that will hold the materials in place until the glue dries or the repair is complete.

Gorilla Tape is a versatile tool that can be used for a variety of tasks around your workshop: creating clamps, repairing cracks, opening jars. The possibilities are endless. For a wide range of Gorilla Tape products, visit RS.
